H-Town Auction League Rules
Updated on January 5, 2026
The H-Town Auction League Constitution are the general rules and guidelines that will be followed by the League. In the event of a scenario not discussed in this document, the commissioner reserves the right to make a ruling and adjust the Constitution as necessary mid-season. As the commissioner, I will attempt to provide time for other managers to provide inputs to any proposed rules. The adjustments made mid-season will be added to Section 9 (Amendments) and will be carried for the remainder of the season. At the conclusion of the season, a league vote will be taken to determine if the rule will remain or will be amended to be added in for the next season. At the beginning of each season, Section 9 will be emptied for other amendments to be added if necessary.
1. General Information and Payments (based on 12-team league)
1.1The league buy-in will be $200 per team due at the draft; any team that has not paid the league fee by the end of Week 1 of the NFL season will have their roster locked until all dues are paid in full; no add/drops, no trades, and no roster changes.
1.2The payouts for finishing position at the end of the season will be:
- 1st place: $1,000
- 2nd place: $500
- 3rd place: $300
- 4th place: $100
- Toilet Bowl Winner: $100
1.3There will be two $50 bonus payouts to the teams that have the highest cumulative scores in offense and defense.
1.4Weekly bonuses of $10 will be paid to the highest scoring offensive and defensive teams each week of the regular season, weeks 1 through 15 of the NFL season. Weekly bonuses will be tracked on the league spreadsheet and will be paid out at the end of the season.
1.5No payouts will be made until all team dues are paid in full.
1.6The H-Town Auction League will use the Yahoo! Sports fantasy football website for weekly rosters, regular season scheduling, regular season record-keeping, and all team scoring. This website is free for use but managers may purchase a premium package with extra fantasy tools if they wish on their own.
1.7At the end of the season, a call for rule updates/additions will be made. Upon review by the league commissioner a vote will be taken on each rule change. All managers are required to vote by the deadline established by the league commissioner. Any changes must be approved by at least 8 of the 12 managers in the league. Any manager not voting by the deadline may face expulsion from the league due to non-participation.
2. Positions
2.1All teams will consist of 13 starting positions and 6 bench positions. The bench position may consist of players from any position.
2.2The starting positions will consist of:
- 1 - Quarterback
- 2 - Running Backs (RB)
- 2 - Wide Receivers (WR)
- 1 - Tight End (TE)
- 1 - Offensive Flex (RB, WR, or TE)
- 1 - Defensive Back (DB)
- 1 - Defensive Lineman (DL)
- 1 - Linebacker (LB)
- 3 - Defensive Flex (DB, DL, or LB)
2.3At the end of the draft all starting positions must be filled but there is no requirement for Bench Players (i.e a team can draft 7 QBs, 1 to start and 6 more to fill their bench spots). All 19 spots must always be filled on a team before the start of the games every week or the team will be considered VOID and will not be able to score any points.
2.4The Injured Reserve position may only include players with the IR designation in Yahoo. Once a player’s IR designation has been removed in Yahoo, managers will have until the start of that week’s scheduled games to remove the player from the Injured Reserve position and make any necessary roster adjustments. Any manager who has not made the appropriate adjustments prior to the start of the week’s games will have the player in the Injured Reserved position dropped automatically and added to the player pool. If a manager is continually relying on the automatic drop, they may be expelled from the league following the conclusion of the season.
3. Points
3.1The Yahoo! Sports fantasy website will be used to keep track of all player scoring. Yahoo! Scores with adjustments are final and will be used for all League scoring including but not limited to determining weekly winners, tie-breakers, and bonuses.

- Passing yards: 0.033 points per yard; 5 point bonus at 300 yards

- Rushing touchdowns: 6 points
- Receptions: 1
- Reception yards: 0.1 points per yard; 5 point bonus at 100 yards
- Reception touchdowns: 6 points
- Return touchdowns: 10 points
- Return yards: 0.1 points per yard
- 2-point conversions: 2 points
- Fumble: -1 point
3.3Defensive scoring:

- Blocked kick: 3 points
4. Auction
4.1An online auction, run through the Yahoo! Sports website will take place approximately 2-4 weeks prior to the start of the regular season.
4.2Each team will be given a salary cap of $250 minus the cost of any keepers (discussed in Section 6.0)
4.3The draft will begin automatically at the designated time and the first player will be up for auction. All managers are responsible for being in the online draft room on time.
4.4The draft order will be automatically determined by Yahoo! Sports prior to the draft.
4.5The nomination time limit is 30 seconds. If a manager fails to set a nomination Yahoo! Sports will automatically place a player for auction. This will normally be the “best available” based on Yahoo! Sports ranking.
4.6The bid time limit is 20 seconds. All bids placed through the website are final and may not be changed.
4.7The player base price for the rest of the season will be the amount he was auctioned for.
4.8At the end of the auction, any player not drafted will be assigned a value of $1 pending the initial Free Agent Acquisition period described in section 8.6 and subsequent Free Agent Acquisition periods described in section 8.2 and 8.3.
5. Trades
5.1Player trading is allowed but in order for teams to carry out a trade the monetary value of the entire trade must not change any teams’ total fantasy dollar value from $250. All teams must maintain $250 (between player value and money in the bank) throughout the entire season. If player trades do not match the monetary guidelines, money can also be traded to ensure the owners’ involved salary caps do not exceed or go below $250.
5.2Trades not meeting the monetary guidelines will be vetoed by the Commissioner immediately.
5.3Trades that meet the monetary value will be put on a up to 24-hour waiting period while the Commissioner reviews the trade to ensure there is no expected collusion between owners. Only obvious collusion cases will be vetoed and evidence will have to be provided to or by the Commissioner for the trade to be vetoed. League managers may provide input to the Commissioner within 3 days of the trade approval for review.
5.4Players who have been traded will receive one additional year of keeper eligibility (see section 6). Only one additional year is added per player, additional trades do not add more keeper eligibility years.
5.5The Trade Deadline will be prior to the start of Week 14 of the NFL season. All trades must be submitted prior to this time or will be automatically vetoed by the Commissioner.
6. League Keepers
6.1In a keeper league any player drafted or picked up through the waiver wire may be chosen to “sign” for the next season.
6.2Teams must submit their keeper players at least one week before the next season’s draft. The exact date will be announced to all owners at least one week prior to the cutoff.
6.3Kept players cost will increase over the previous year’s values by the following amounts:
- Offensive players will cost $5 more
- Defensive players will cost $2 more
(i.e. Joe Player was purchased for $28 this year and the team wants to keep him for the next year. He will cost $33 to keep. If the team decided to keep Player for another year he will cost $38.)
6.4A team may have a maximum of 5 keepers per season unless they were the previous season’s Toilet Bowl Championship (see Section 7.9) who will receive an additional keeper position for a maximum of 6 keepers
6.5Players can be kept for no more than three consecutive seasons with the same initial drafting price as the baseline with the exception of players who have been traded. Players traded during the season will have an additional year of eligibility added to their keeper status
6.6If a player is dropped during the season and is picked up by another team, either through the waiver process or the free agent process (see section 8), their eligibility will be reset as a new baseline price is established. This does not apply if the same manager that dropped the player also picks the player back up through the duration of the season. In these cases the previous keeper elegibility status will be retained.
6.7Keeper example scenarios:
- Joe Player was drafted in 2007 by Team Generic Name Here for $30. For keepers in 2008, Team Generic Name Here decided to keep Joe Player for $35. During the season Joe Players is traded to Team X. Team X decides to keep Joe Player for the 2009 season for $40. This will be the final season Joe Player is an eligible keeper. For the 2010 draft, Joe Player will be entered into the draft pool.
- Team A drafts Tom Player for $10 then drops him late in the season. Team B picks up Tom Player off the waiver wire and decides to keep him next season for $15 and the next season for $20. In Week 4 of that season, Tom Player was injured and was placed on IR for the season. Team B drops Tom Player. Team C may pick up Tom Player but he won't be able to be kept because he has been on a roster for three consecutive seasons at the $10 baselined price.
7. Game Schedules & Playoff
7.1The schedule will be automatically generated by Yahoo! Sports.
7.2The regular season will last from Week 1 of the NFL regular season until the end of Week 15 of the NFL regular season.
7.3At the end of the regular season, the top five teams based on record will advance to the playoffs. Of the remaining teams, the team with the highest total points will qualify for the playoffs as the 6th seed.
7.4In the event of a tie record for any playoff position, the team(s) that advance will be determined by the following tiebreakers in the order listed:
- Total points scored
- Head to head record
- Highest single week score
- In the unlikely event a tie still exists, a commissioner coin flip to be witnessed by at least three league managers will determine who enters the playoffs.
7.5The Playoffs will be held in Week 16 and the Championship will be held in Week 17 of the NFL regular season.
7.6The top two teams determined by the criteria listed in 7.3 and 7.4 will receive a bye to the Championship round in Week 17.
7.7The remaining four Playoff teams will compete, round robin-style (all four teams compete against each other) for the final two spots in the Championship game. The top two scoring Playoff teams for the Week 16 game will be the teams to advance. In the event of a tie the team(s) to move on to the Championship will be determined by the following criteria:
- Overall points scored throughout the regular season
- Highest single week score during the regular season
- Total points scored on even-numbered Weeks during the regular season
- Total points scored on odd-numbered Weeks during the regular season
- In the unlikely event a tie still exists, a commissioner coin flip to be witnessed by at least three league managers will determine who enters the Championship game.
7.8The Championship will be determined by a round robin-style game where all four teams will compete against each other for the best scores. The scores will determine the final place of each team in the League. Ties will be allowed in the Championship game and money will be divided accordingly. For example, if the top two scoring teams are tied at the end of the game, they will divide the first and second place prize money between them. If the top three scoring teams are tied, the prize money will be evenly split between the three teams.
7.9While the Playoffs are going on, the remaining teams will be competing round robin-style in the Toilet Bowl. The winner of the Toilet Bowl will be determined by the total score over Week 16 and 17 of the regular NFL season. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the following criteria in order listed:
- Lowest total points scored in the regular season
- Lowest weekly score during the regular season
- Team with the most amount of roster moves as shown by Yahoo! Sports (excess moves at the end of the season will not be counted)
7.10Because Yahoo! Sports doesn’t have controls for round robin-style games, the Playoff, Championship, and Toilet Bowls will be tracked in the “Postseason” tab on the League Spreadsheet. Scores will be calculated from the Yahoo! Sports website.
8. Free Agent Acquisition
8.11Players will be placed on waivers at the start of their weekly scheduled game until 11:59pm CT on Tuesday morning (“waiver period”). During this time no add/drops will be processed but will be added to the waiver list.
8.12During the waiver period, managers can place bids on free agents available using their Yahoo Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB). The available budget will be updated weekly based on the manager’s available salary cap space. At the end of the waiver period, the manager who bids the highest dollar amount will be awarded the free agent. Ties will be broken by a Continual Rolling List waiver priority.
8.13While outside of the waiver period players can be acquired at a cost of $1.
8.14When a player is dropped he will be added to the waiver for 1 day before being placed back into the player pool.
8.15Immediately following the draft, after the draft results have been entered, a special waiver period will begin that will last 2-3 days (the exact schedule will be communicated to all managers). During this special waiver period managers can place bids using their FAAB. Once the special waiver period ends all players will be available on a first come, first serve basis until the start of the regular season.
8.16No add/drop or player pickups may be made after the start of the Week 17 Sunday games.
8.17Add/drops automatically processed through the waiver that put a manager’s team over their budget will be reversed by the commission when add/drops are added to the League Spreadsheet. The player that put the team over budget will be entered back into the player pool where they can be picked up on a first come, first serve basis.
9. In-Season Rule Amendments
9.1
Transcribed from the league rules document as it stands, including its own numbering. Section 8 numbers its items 11 to 17 in the source; that is not a transcription error and it has not been renumbered here. Section 9 is empty by design, and is cleared at the start of each season.
